Diatomaceous earth filter aids have good microporous structure, adsorption performance, and compressive resistance, which not only enable the filtered liquid to achieve a good flow rate ratio, but also filter out fine suspended solids, ensuring clarity. Diatomaceous earth is a sediment of ancient single-celled diatom remains. Its characteristics include lightweight, porous, high-strength, wear-resistant, insulation, insulation, adsorption, and filling, among other excellent properties.
Diatomaceous earth is a sediment of ancient single-celled diatom remains. Its characteristics include lightweight, porous, high-strength, wear-resistant, insulation, insulation, adsorption, and filling, among other excellent properties. Has good chemical stability. It is an important industrial material for insulation, grinding, filtration, adsorption, anticoagulation, demolding, filling, and carrier. It can be widely used in industries such as metallurgy, chemical engineering, electricity, agriculture, fertilizers, building materials and insulation products. It can also be used as industrial functional fillers for plastics, rubber, ceramics, papermaking, and other industries.
Diatomaceous earth filter aids are divided into dry products, calcined products, and flux calcined products according to different production processes.
① Dried products
The purified, pre dried, and crushed silica dried soil raw material is dried at a temperature of 600-800 ° C and then crushed. This product has a very fine particle size and is suitable for precision filtration. It is often used in combination with other filter aids. The dried product is mostly light yellow, but also has milky white and light gray.
② Calcined product
The purified, dried, and crushed diatomaceous earth raw material is fed into a rotary kiln, calcined at a temperature of 800-1200 ° C, and then crushed and graded to obtain the calcined product. Compared with dry products, the permeability of calcined products is more than three times higher. The calcined products are mostly light red in color.
③ Flux calcined products
After purification, drying, and crushing, the diatomaceous earth raw material is added with a small amount of fluxing substances such as sodium carbonate and sodium chloride, and calcined at a temperature of 900-1200 ° C. After crushing and particle size grading, the flux calcined product is obtained. The permeability of flux calcined products has significantly increased, which is more than 20 times that of dry products. The calcined products of flux are mostly white, and when the Fe2O3 content is high or the flux dosage is low, they appear light pink.
The main drawbacks of diatomaceous earth filter aids are:
1. Lack of resources. The production of diatomaceous earth filter aids requires high-quality diatomaceous earth with high diatom content. Although China has abundant diatomaceous earth resources, the vast majority are medium to low-grade diatomaceous earth mines, which are difficult to meet production requirements;
2. The production cost is relatively high. The production process of diatomaceous earth is relatively complex, and coupled with the high price of high-quality diatomaceous earth resources, the production cost of diatomaceous earth filter aids in China has been maintained at a high level;
3. The filtration rate is relatively slow and the bulk density is high. Adding more according to its quality often does not meet the expected requirements, and adding more will increase the cost. Some people want to develop diatomaceous earth type products with low bulk density, but due to limitations in the composition and structure of raw materials, satisfactory results have not been achieved so far;
4. The chemical stability is not ideal. The content of harmful components such as iron and calcium in diatomaceous earth is relatively high and exists in a separated state, so its dissolution rate is high. When filtering many beverages and alcoholic beverages, high iron dissolution can affect the taste and flavor of the product.
