Nature
Sodium bentonite is divided according to the type and content of exchangeable cations between layers of montmorillonite: the one with alkalinity coefficient greater than or equal to 1 is sodium bentonite, and the one with alkalinity coefficient less than 1 is calcium bentonite.
The failure temperature of artificial sodium bentonite is different due to different sodium conditions, but they are all lower than that of natural sodium bentonite; the expansion force of natural sodium bentonite is larger than that of artificial sodium bentonite; the c-axis order of natural sodium bentonite is higher than that of artificial sodium bentonite, with finer grains and strong dispersion. The physical and chemical properties and technological properties of Na bentonite are superior to that of Ca bentonite. It is mainly manifested in: slow water absorption, high water absorption and expansion ratio; high cation exchange capacity; good dispersion in water medium, high colloidal price; good thixotropy, viscosity, lubricity, pH value; good thermal stability; high plasticity and strong adhesion; high hot wet tensile strength and dry pressure strength. Therefore, the use value and economic value of sodium bentonite are higher. The physical and chemical properties of artificial sodium bentonite depend not only on the type and content of montmorillonite, but also on the method and degree of artificial sodium.

Application
1. In drilling well, the drilling mud suspension with high fluidity and thixotropy is arranged.
2. In mechanical manufacturing, it can be used as molding sand and binder, which can overcome the phenomenon of "sand inclusion" and "peeling" of castings, reduce the scrap rate of castings, and ensure the accuracy and smoothness of castings.
3. Used as a paper filler in the paper industry to enhance the brightness of paper sheets.
4. It can be used as antistatic coating instead of starch sizing and printing coating in textile printing and dyeing liquid.
5. In metallurgical industry, bentonite is used as the binder of iron ore pellet, which makes the particle size of ore uniform and the reduction performance good, which is the biggest usage of bentonite.
6. In petroleum industry, sodium bentonite is used to prepare tar water emulsion.
7. In food industry, sodium bentonite is used to decolorize and purify animal and vegetable oil, clarify wine and juice, stabilize beer, etc.
8. In textile printing and dyeing industry, sodium bentonite is used as filler, bleaching agent, antistatic coating, which can replace starch sizing and make printing paste.
